Nuuk / Godthåb, Sermersooq, Greenland: Peqatigiiffik Qajaq Nuuk is a local association dedicated to the preservation and promotion of traditional Greenlandic kayaking (qajaq) culture. Situated in Nuuk’s Old Colonial Harbour, the club maintains facilities for storing and building traditional skin-on-frame kayaks. It serves as a center for instruction in ancestral paddling techniques, rolling skills, and harpoon throwing, which were historically critical for Inuit survival in the Arctic. The association plays a central role in the community by organizing training for youth and adults and hosting local competitions. Through these activities, Peqatigiiffik Qajaq Nuuk ensures the continuity of maritime heritage that is fundamental to Greenland’s national identity. The construction of the film set began in June 1979. A construction crew of 165 working four months was needed to build the village, which consists of 19 wooden buildings. Hundreds of logs and several thousand wooden planks were imported from the Netherlands, while wood shingles used in the construction of the roof tops were imported from Canada
