Rome, Italy: Trajan's Column ('Colonna Traiana') is a column of honor that was erected in 112/113 AD for the Roman Emperor Trajan (98–117 AD) at his forum in Rome. The monumental column is still in its original location today and is the most impressive and best-known remnant of Trajan's Forum, visible from afar. It the spiral bas-relief commemorates Trajan's victory in the Dacian Wars. It was probably constructed under the supervision of the architect Apollodorus of Damascus at the order of the Roman Senate.
